On the other end of the spectrum, the LG G5 screen offers a rather low minimum brightness level of only 3.6nits (just like LG G4 and V10), which means it will go quite easy on the eyes when you use the phone in pitch dark settings. The technology helps sunlight legibility not by making the screen brighter, but by processing darker parts of the images on screen to make them easier to read by brightening them up selectively. To help things even further, LG G5 comes with something called Assertive Display algorithm for adjusting pixel color values in real time on GPU level in bright sunlight. It's a good thing that at least in auto brightness mode, the phone is able to push it up to 378nits in response to bright ambient light. However, the maximum brightness is surprisingly low at 306nits. The screen of the LG G5 has an impressively high contrast ratio (1885:1) due to its especially deep blacks (deep for an LCD anyway). It's a 5.3" Quantum IPS LCD unit of Quad HD resolution, which sums up in 554ppi screen density. The LG G5 has screen similar to the one used on the V10, but smaller. The bad news is the battery life is still as unimpressive as before. The good news is that there were almost no differences compared to our pre-production unit so all initial review conclusions are still valid.

If resolution is your thing, though, then you can't do any better than this. The rest is very much top end Android fare. It's more than enough to run Android and like all top-of-the-line handsets currently on sale, has no perceptible lag whatsoever.Īs a complete package, the screen is what stands out on the G3. Just a note on that battery - it's a 3000 mAh unit, which on paper is better than what Samsung offers in the Galaxy S5, but in reality is about the same in terms of usage time.Īs for the rest, LG has incorporated a quad-core 2.5 GHz 800 processor and 2GB of RAM. While it isn't drastically bad, the G3's battery can't quite match the impressive heights of the G2.

Not unlike when Apple first released the Retina MacBook Pro, apps need to be updated to take advantage of the resolution. On the other, many Android applications don't scale hugely well to the display. On the one hand, it's amazingly sharp and boasts vivid and deep colour reproduction. The screen poses an interesting problem on the G3. The 5.5-inch 1440 x 2560 pixel display is absolutely outstanding, not only because of its picture quality, but also how slim the bezels are around the display.
At 149 grams, you won't notice it in your pocket.Īll that size comes simply from the fact that the G3 has a massive screen. It's not uncomfortable to use, but then again some might have issues with the size. In terms of sheer size, the G3 is 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm. It's one of the best ergonomic smartphone features we've seen to date, and we want to see it used elsewhere. Like the G2, the lock key and volume controls for the handset are sat on the back of the device.
